This is a theological book-club
for members of St George’s church and other churches or, indeed, for
people who go to no church at all . At present, between seven and ten (out
of a total of seventeen members) read the book of the month and come to a
meeting to discuss it. We read books by a variety of authors, including
some local authors, who have been present. Two topics which regularly
recur in our conversations are how we can understand and follow more
closely Jesus Christ and more effective methods of prayer.

Sewing
group
|
Meetings
are held fortnightly in a different home each time. Visitors often join us
and new members are always welcome. The sewing ranges from repairs/sewing
on name tapes to fine embroidery on kid leather and we have a very
productive knitter in the group. Not all our members are from the
congregation and several live outside the parish. It’s fair to say that
there is not always much sewing done, but there is always lots of
conversation and much laughter.

Prayer
and share
|
The
Prayer and Share group meets monthly; we spend about twenty minutes in
silent prayer, “waiting upon God”. Then each, if they wish, shares
their thoughts and concerns. In the group , we hope to think about, and
develop, our “work” together as local Christians.

Monthly
lunches
|
The
“Tuesday Lunch”, which started in 1989, meets in the Whitmore Room on
the second Tuesday in each month, between noon and 1.30. Everyone is
welcome (you do not have to give advance notice) to share sandwiches,
cake, coffee and conversation for an hour or so.
A further helper is now needed – perhaps a retired person.
