SPECIAL SERVICES

Baptisms or Thanksgiving for the birth of a child

We hope to welcome your child and family to St George’s for these important occasions. Baptism at whatever stage in life is the rite of entering into the family of the Church. Thanksgiving is simply that, and does not require the making of promises. Please contact one of the Clergy as soon as possible in your planning.

Confirmation classes Sessions for either young people or adults preparing for confirmation normally take place between March and June each year. We normally meet as a group exploring and sharing experience, while also receiving teaching on the Christian life and the Church.

Weddings

We welcome the possibility of having your wedding at St George’s. The Church of England is governed by certain legal requirements and so the sooner we know your needs the better. Don’t forget that receptions often need booking much more in advance than the church.

We are very close by several venues, which may be suitable for receptions including  Simpsons Restaurant and Birmingham Botanical Gardens, a very popular and attractive venue – they tend to be booked up far in advance, so early enquiries are advised.

The Vicar will consider and discuss  re-marriage in church for those who are remarrying after divorce.

Funerals and memorial services

Many people still choose their local church for such an important occasion and you do not need to be a member of St George’s to ask for a service to be held there. A funeral in church before going either to the crematorium or cemetery means that you don’t have to worry about fitting the length of service to suit the crematorium. Whatever you decide, ask the funeral director to contact the clergy about the date and time  before making a final decision. The Church wishes to support you at such a difficult time.

St George’s is ideally suited to memorial Services with seating for several hundred people.
