St. George's Day

St. George's Day Celebration

The celebration of our patron saint is always a big event at St George’s.

Each year since 2013, on or about St George’s Day, the church celebrates with the whole community by hosting an OPEN DAY with our local participating schools and businesses.  Our local retirement homes are also enthusiastic partners.  The actual day is flexible, depending on the school holidays and impending exam times for the pupils.  The schools run a poster contest and the winning entries are made into flyers and posters to distribute and advertise the event. The programme varies each year and features school choirs, dancers, cheerleaders, solo musicians, poetry readings, art projects and a splendid play of St George and the Dragon (written by a member of the congregation) is enthusiastically performed by the pupils of St George’s Primary School.  A vegetarian luncheon for all is provided by the church and local participating restaurants.
