Dear friends,

I hope you've had an enjoyable summer.

As we look towards autumn, please find attached the September pewsheet and prayer calendar.

Also, below is an encouragement to take part in the Bishops' Prayer Network launch this Monday. A group from St George's will be there!

The Bishops' Prayer Network launch

1 September, 7.30pm at St Barnabas, Erdington

Watch the video (link below) of Bishop Michael and Bishop Esther encouraging us to become part of the Prayer Network.

We believe God is calling us into deeper prayer for our city, our churches, and our communities. The Bishops’ Prayer Network will be made up of at least 24 (many more welcome, but a minimum of 24) committed intercessors, people whose longing to see lives changed, justice restored, and the name of Jesus lifted high across Birmingham and beyond is expressed through prayer.

As part of the network, you’ll join others in praying regularly, covering four Prayer Weeks across the year, when we will have 24-hour prayer vigils, as well as being ready to respond in times of urgent need. This is about building a culture where prayer isn’t just something we do, but the heartbeat of our diocese.

Come and join us for the launch event, where we’ll pray together, hear the vision, and acknowledge our dependence on God. Whether you're a seasoned intercessor or simply feel God nudging you to pray more intentionally, this invitation is for you. The Bishops' Prayer Network is open to all traditions.

Please find attached:

  • The Pewsheet for August: a new publication offering the usual information in a monthly format.

  • A prayer calendar for the month of August.

I have also two additional notices to share:

Tony Parkinson sends his best wishes to the St George’s community where he has been a regular congregation member for three years. He has moved to Doncaster in search of work, but hopes to visit us again. Tony is highly skilled in 3D computer-aided drafting for manufacturing and engineering clients, where work is usually on project-based, short-term contracts and is often undervalued in this country in competition with overseas suppliers. Nick Gibbs

Pamela Henson died recently. Pam was a longstanding member of our congregation until she moved over to Edgbaston Old Church in 2023, when it became easier for her to travel there. We send our condolences and assurance of prayers to her family and friends. Details of her funeral will be shared in due course. May she rest in peace.

Please find this week's notices attached.

And a reminder that The Gents of St John's are performing this evening in church this evening at 7.30pm!
